Derendorf belongs to the ring of neighborhoods that developed rapidly after the Düsseldorf fortifications were razed at the beginning of the 19th century. Industrialization, the railroad and the powerful impulses of the Gründerjahre accelerated development. Intact middle-class residential areas can be found here. And the proximity to the city center makes Derendorf a sought-after residential location. In Gründerzeit neighborhoods, public green space is scarce. The large central northern cemetery has the value of a park. Derendorf is nevertheless young. An interesting young pub scene and good shopping facilities are among the district's advantages. Due to the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in the immediate vicinity and other private higher education institutions, an urban, dynamic new scene has emerged. Pubs, restaurants, bars as well as diverse shopping opportunities characterize the current cityscape.
