Location

Location description

The Free State of Saxony is located in the east of the Federal Republic of Germany. From the state capital Dresden is located at a distance of about 85 km the third largest city in the state: Chemnitz. With 250,000 inhabitants and an area of about 221.03 km², Chemnitz is one of the most important economic areas in the new German states.
About 23.9 km and 25 minutes by car away is the city of Frankenberg in the district of Central Saxony, within the Saxon granulite mountains in the foothills of the Ore Mountains in the Zschopau valley, surrounded by many mixed forests such as the Lützeltal, the Striegistal or the Buchenwald.
To the west of the town's outskirts, the Zschopau River flows by, furthermore, the Mühlbach River crosses the district of the same name, as well as the town center.
Frankenberg gained special economic importance through the cigar-making trade and the automobile industry, especially through the Marko Framo (Frankenberger Motorenwerke) which were produced there between 1923 and 1933.
The town's landmark is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Aegidien, the associated church tower can already be seen from the highway. The lower part of the tower was built as early as 1499 and is still preserved today. The largest green area near the city center is the Friedenspark, which was created from a disused cemetery around 1890/1891.

Approximately 4 kilometers from the city center is the community of Dittersbach, which together with its district Neudörfchen forms the Frankenberg district of Dittersbach.
The Lützelbach flows through the village and flows into the Zschopau south of Sachsenburg.
North of Dittersbach run the federal highway 169 and the federal highway 4, which can be reached in a few minutes by car and is thus very well connected to the surrounding cities.
