Worpswede is a municipality in the district of Osterholz to the north-east of Bremen, located in the middle of the Teufelsmoor, and is a state-recognized health resort. The town is located on the 51-meter-high elevation of the Weyerberg. The town is known for the Worpswede artists' colony, founded in 1889 as a living and working community for artists. The "Künstlerhäuser Worpswede" (Worpswede artists' residences) was one of the largest in Germany until 2009. Worpswede is home to numerous cultural institutions and galleries.
In addition to the many cultural and gastronomic offerings that the 'artists' village of Worpswede' has in store for you, it also offers numerous shopping opportunities: from small specialty stores to super discount stores, tasteful fashion and flower stores, bookshops and an amazing amount more - all within a few minutes' walk.
In the Schluh itself, nature reigns supreme - in magnificent gardens, most beautifully with old thatched-roof houses. The adjoining flat land and the Weyherberg are ideal for walking, jogging or cycling, for example in the wide Hammen lowlands with its amazingly diverse flora and fauna.
