Ottersberg and Fischerhude are located in the Wümmen lowlands, Quelkhorn and Otterstedt on the geest ridge of the Zevener Geest and Posthausen is the merger of the street villages of Ottersberg in the cultivated moor.
Ottersberg is a unified municipality and consists of the villages of Flecken Ottersberg and Flecken Fischerhude as well as Otterstedt, Posthausen and Narthauen. Other districts are Benkel, Eckstever, Grasdorf, Ottersberg-Bahnhof and Quelkhorn.
In Posthausen, the Dodenhof department store has developed from a small family business into one of the largest shopping centers in northern Germany. The food industry company Buss is also important.
