Markneukirchen is a town in the Vogtland region of Saxony with a population of around 8,000. It is particularly well known for its instrument making.
Markneukirchen is one of the southernmost Saxon towns in the upper Vogtland. On both sides of the Schwarzbach, a right tributary of the White Elster, and its tributary valleys, the town and its associated fields spread across the northern and southern mountain ridges. The districts of Schönlind, Landwüst and Wernitzgrün lie to the south of the town, not in the Schwarzbach valley. The entire municipal area is part of the western slope of the Elstergebirge and is drained by tributaries of the Elster. It lies at an altitude of between 468 m in the district of Siebenbrunn and 803 m at Hoher Brand.
