Unterbach – most people immediately think of the lake. Indeed, when Unterbach became part of Düsseldorf in 1975, the city acquired a district with excellent leisure qualities. After all, a fifth of the district’s area consists of water. What’s more, Unterbach also offers lots of woods, meadows and fields where you can take a lengthy walk, and which naturally make an enormous contribution to the quality of life in this district to the south-east of the city. In summer, apart from swimming (there are two lidos), the lake also offers opportunities for sailing, fishing and surfing, as well as use of a pedalo. And anyone not tempted to try the cafe can find themselves a nice barbecue spot. Unterbach’s comparably compact residential area lies above the Rothenbergstraße, and is already on the slopes of the Bergisches Land region. Before the municipal reorganisation, Unterbach was part of this region, or more precisely, belonged to Erkrath.
