Lehe is located close to where the Geeste flows into the Weser, not far from where it flows into the North Sea. The centrally located district borders the districts of Weddewarden and Leherheide to the north. To the southwest is the district of Mitte (the old Bremerhaven), and behind it to the south is the district of Geestemünde. The port of Bremerhaven was founded on the former Leher area. Today, the port area belongs to the Mitte district and the city of Bremen.
Only the portal of the Rickmerswerft shipyard still bears witness to the former shipyard activities.
Trains from Bremen terminate at Bremerhaven-Lehe station, while trains operated by Eisenbahnen und Verkehrsbetriebe Elbe-Weser (EVB) stop here on their way to Cuxhaven and Buxtehude. Lehe can be reached by car via the former Bundesstraße 6, the Bundesstraße 212 and the Bundesautobahn 27 (Mitte and Überseehäfen junctions). The main thoroughfares in the district are Hafenstraße and Stresemannstraße.
