Castrop-Rauxel
While the city's slogan used to be "industrial city in the countryside" (over 60% of the city area is green space), the closure of all the mines and structural change has left only the greenery, adorned with the title "European City". The following towns border Castrop-Rauxel, clockwise from the north: Recklinghausen, Datteln, Waltrop (all district of Recklinghausen), Dortmund, Bochum, Herne. The federal highways A 2 (Oberhausen-Berlin), A 42 (Kamp-Lintfort-Dortmund) and A 45 (Dortmund-Aschaffenburg) run through the city. At the Castrop-Rauxel-Ost junction, the A 42 intersects with the A 45. The B 235 federal road (Senden-Witten), with a connection to the A 40/B 1, crosses the city from north to south.
