Bad Schandau is a small Saxon town and a recognized Kneipp spa and health resort in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge on the Elbe. Bad Schandau is located on the right bank of the Elbe directly at the Saxon Switzerland National Park in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The town consists of the old town settlement of Schandau and the eight districts Krippen, Neuporschdorf, Porschdorf, Postelwitz, Prossen, Schmilka, Ostrau and Waltersdorf.
The railway line (Dresden-Decin line) runs along the left bank of the Elbe. The town center can be reached from the station by ferry connection as well as via an Elbe bridge. The station is a stop on the EuroCity connections between Berlin and Prague. Some trains continue on to Budapest, Hamburg and Binz. In night traffic with the City Night Line there are connections to Zurich. Further mobility is provided by the regional bus lines of OVPS and the nearby connection to the B172 toward Dresden.
