The old town of Grünberg has many half-timbered buildings with beautiful façades (mainly from the 15th century), as well as numerous other notable historic buildings, squares and structures. Particularly worth mentioning are:
Market square with town hall and fountain: The market square is considered the center of Grünberg’s old town. The most significant building there is the town hall, a Renaissance building dating from 1586/87. It was built by district administrator Hermann Rüdiger from Hersfeld. It has been owned by the town since 1593. In the past, the hall on the ground floor housed a market and trading space. An iron cubit rod can be seen at the entrance. The fountain in the market square with the “fountain gazer” is a 36 m-deep draw well that was in operation until around 1500. It was filled in and forgotten in 1820, then rediscovered in 1980.
Diebsturm: The Diebsturm is the landmark of the town of Grünberg and was built around 1300 as part of the town fortifications (height 25 m). It later served as a prison for some time. In 1895/95, it was converted into a water tower. Today, it houses an exhibition on the history of the town fortifications and serves as an observation tower.
and much more.
