Vinxel belongs to the municipality of Stieldorf and borders the villages of Stieldorf (to the east) and Oelinghofen (to the south-east). To the north, Vinxel borders on Ungarten and Niederholtdorf, both of which belong to Bonn. The bus lines 537 (Bonn - Oberpleis) and 541 (Oberpleis - Königswinter) provide easy access to Vinxel.
There is a bakery and a daycare center in the village. In the neighboring village of Stieldorf, approx. 1 km away, there is an EDEK supermarket, bakery, post office, bank and other retailers as well as an elementary school.
