In the northwest of Göttingen, they still exist: These hidden villages where rural life is still as one imagines it. After just 30 minutes by car, you have already arrived from Göttingen. To the south lies the Bramwald, while to the north the biodiversity of the Solling-Vogler Nature Park lies in repose. Here, lynx, red fox and black stork wish each other good night. And right in the middle lies Bollensen, a small community with around 460 inhabitants. Actually, it is merely a district of the nearby town of Uslar, with its 14,000 inhabitants.

Here, half-timbered dreams come true
In Bollensen’s historic centre, another essential ingredient that makes rural life so fascinating becomes apparent. Naturally, this means a farm that could have come straight from a picture book. This property is a spacious four-sided farmstead with the finest half-timbered elements, the likes of which are now rarely found.

A substantial piece of farmstead history
No historic farm was planned and created all at once. Rather, it can be regarded as a growing organism that has an origin and continues to develop. Thus, in 1773, the married couple Ludwig Ruwisch and Louise Hilken had the first residential and agricultural building constructed as a two-storey, partially cellared half-timbered building with two cross passages. Almost 100 years later, the second residential and agricultural building was erected. The married couple Wilhelm Kirchner and Wilhelmine Jahns wanted it built as a regionally typical cross-aisle house. This work was completed in 1869.

The barn was built in 1839 as a two-storey half-timbered building by the married couple Georg Friedrich Kirchner and Johanne Charlotte Kirchner. The storage building was constructed around 1825 in the Built in the eastern section of the farmyard and extended into the courtyard in 1848 by Georg Friedrich Kirchner. The respective years are documented and are now visible on the four buildings as decorative inscriptions in the wooden beams.

The two residential farm buildings are designated as individual architectural monuments pursuant to Section 3 (2) of the Lower Saxony Heritage Protection Act within a group of built structures. The storage building with cellar and the barn are designated pursuant to Section 3 (3) NDSchG as part of a group of built structures (ensemble protection).

In the Heart of the Farmyard
Those who live here quickly learn to appreciate the witnesses to history. This includes not only the half-timbering, but also the old paving, the rustic fittings, the old doors and the many retreats. Everything radiates a sublime tranquillity that nothing can disturb. Then as now, the enormous inner courtyard is a place that connects everything. There is plenty of space here for gathering, celebrating and everyday farm life.
