Curau – living in the countryside while still being well connected
Curau is a village in the municipality of Stockelsdorf in the Ostholstein district and has around 550–600 inhabitants. The village is characterised by its rural character, plenty of greenery and its historic village centre with a church. The approximately 200-hectare Curau Moor nature area is located directly on the outskirts and offers excellent recreational value. At the same time, Curau has bus connections as well as water, gas and central wastewater infrastructure.
A major advantage is the location: you live peacefully in the countryside, yet can reach both Ahrensbök and Bad Schwartau within a few minutes. Stockelsdorf and Lübeck are also easily accessible. In addition, a bus route runs via Curau between Lübeck/Stockelsdorf and Ahrensbök.
Towards Ahrensbök
Curau is approximately 7–8 km from Ahrensbök, or around 10 minutes by car depending on the starting and destination points. The distance as the crow flies is approximately 7.3 km.
Ahrensbök offers good basic amenities for everyday needs. These include several supermarkets such as REWE, ALDI Nord and Lidl, as well as the ROSSMANN drugstore. There are also general practitioners’ surgeries and, for example, the Wald-Apotheke Ahrensbök pharmacy. A primary and comprehensive school is also available. The municipality itself lists various medical services and general practitioners’ surgeries in the town centre.
This means that shopping, school, a pharmacy and primary medical care can all be reached from Curau in around ten minutes.
Towards Bad Schwartau
Bad Schwartau is also very close to Curau. The distance as the crow flies is approximately 5 km; by road, I would estimate approximately 7–9 km and around 10–12 minutes’ driving time for a property description, depending on the specific destination in Bad Schwartau.
Bad Schwartau then offers a significantly more extensive urban infrastructure. The town is the largest town in the Ostholstein district and has a well-developed retail sector, numerous healthcare services and a high density of educational institutions. The town centre includes Die Twiete and the Königsweg Passage, among others, as well as numerous other shops, pharmacies, doctors and service providers.
Bad Schwartau railway station is particularly attractive for commuters. From there, train connections run to destinations including Lübeck, Kiel and Neustadt. Bad Schwartau is also directly adjacent to Lübeck and has good road connections, including the A1 motorway.

At the same time, Stockelsdorf and the Hanseatic City of Lübeck are also quickly accessible – an interesting combination, particularly for families and commuters.
