Achim is the largest town and an independent municipality in the district of Verden in Lower Saxony. Located south-east of Bremen, it is also often referred to as Achim bei Bremen.
Achim is located in the middle Weser lowlands on the edge of the Achim-Verdener Geest. There are natural moors in the vicinity of the town. Achim lies on the Weser and the Alte Aller, which forms an oxbow of the Aller and flows into the Weser near Baden. The landscape is characterized by marshland on the Weser to the west of the town, dune elevations up to 40 m high and the Badener moor to the west.
Achim is home to several international companies, including Amazon, Coca-Cola and Vitakraft. Companies are located in the industrial estates of Achim-Ost, Bierdener Mehren, Baden, Uesen, Uphuser Mehren, An der Eisenbahn, Bremer Kreuz, Bremer Straße and the Desma Technology Park.
Achim is connected to the A 1 and A 27 federal highways via three junctions.
