Location details
Herborn lies at the foot of the Westerwald and is one of the best-preserved medieval town centers in Germany. Herborn is connected to the A45, known as the “Sauerland Line,” which provides access to the Rhine-Main region and the Ruhr region. The well-developed B277 bypass keeps commuter traffic out of the attractive town center. You can also use train services to Gießen and Siegen from Herborn station.
In addition to primary, secondary and intermediate schools, Herborn also has a grammar school. There are kindergartens and daycare centers for the youngest children. Banks, the municipal administration and the police are all located here.
Herborn’s historic old town, preserved as a unified whole, invites visitors to stroll and linger in its winding lanes and lively market squares. The weekly market, featuring regional delicacies, is especially popular. Supermarkets and various specialty shops are within walking distance in the town. Medical care is good, as several specialists are based here. Older people have numerous options for age-friendly living. Herborn has twice served as host and venue for the Hessentag—in 1986 and 2016. There is also a wide range of dining options.
