An estate with art history
Johann Baptist Lenz was born in Oberkail in 1922 and remained closely connected to his home region throughout his life. As a sculptor, he made a name for himself in the Eifel and far beyond. His life’s work includes sculptures, statuary, fountains, memorials and numerous ecclesiastical works.
Among his best-known works are the Doctor-Wein Fountain in Bernkastel-Kues, the Clara Viebig Fountain in Eisenschmitt and the “Amtsschimmel” in front of the Ahrweiler District Administration. According to historical records, all of his works of art were created in his Oberkail studio.
His works continue to shape public squares, churches and communities throughout the Eifel to this day.
