The neighborhood of your new apartment is a very interesting place steeped in history.
At the end of the 1880s, the sandy hills east of Steglitz were excavated for building materials for the growing city. Later, German aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal made his first flight attempts here. As late as 1922, the sandy surroundings served as a filming location for a movie set in Egypt (“The Wife of the Pharaoh”).
Founded in Steglitz in 1900, the “Steglitz Workshop” is still considered one of the birthplaces of the book arts movement. Later, it became Germany’s first “modern” advertising agency.
