    Gelsenkirchen’s Erle district lies to the north-east of the Rhein-Herne canal and the Emscher river. To the south-east, it directly borders the woods in the Resser Mark district. Several streams flow through the district, including for example the Leither Mühlenbach and the Knabenbach.
    The district is surrounded by other districts of the city of Gelsenkirchen. Erle borders Beckhausen to the west, Buer to the north-west, Resse to the north-east and Resser Mark to the east. The A2 motorway is only a few minutes’ drive away, and from there also the A43. The Marl chemical park is about 20 minutes’ drive away.
