The municipality belongs to the Bodenwerder-Polle joint municipality in the Lower Saxony district of Holzminden. To understand the significance of this culinary institution, it is worth taking a look back.
The building housing the restaurant stands on historic ground. Originally built as an administrative building in 1747, it was part of the medieval Polle castle complex. After its destruction in 1945, the ground floor was rebuilt from the rubble that same year. The present-day restaurant building was established there in 1946 – simple, with a flat roof, but offering a view over the Weser that is hard to find anywhere else.
As early as the 1950s and 1960s, this place was a popular attraction: Every day, excursion steamers operated by Oberweser Dampfschifffahrt docked, tourists disembarked, climbed the few steps to the terrace – and let their gaze wander across the ferry, river and bend in the Weser. Today, the steamer stops only rarely, but the magic of the place remains.
In 2000, the current owners took over the restaurant and, with great passion and a commitment to quality, shaped it into what it is today: a gourmet destination known far beyond the region, offering sophisticated cuisine. The former excursion restaurant became a gourmet address that relies not on passing trade, but on a loyal clientele with considerable spending power.
