The building housing the restaurant stands on historic ground. Originally built as an administrative building in 1747, it was part of Polle’s medieval castle complex. After its destruction in 1945, the ground floor was rebuilt from the rubble that same year. The present-day restaurant building was established there in 1946—simple, with a flat roof, but offering a view over the Weser that is hard to find anywhere else.
Even in the 1950s and 1960s, this place was a popular attraction: every day, the excursion boats of Oberweser Steamboat Navigation docked here, tourists disembarked, climbed the few steps to the terrace—and let their gaze wander over the ferry, river and bend in the Weser. Today, the steamer stops only rarely, but the magic of the place remains.
In 2000, the current owners took over the restaurant and, with great passion and a commitment to quality, shaped it into what it is today: a gourmet destination renowned far beyond the region, offering sophisticated cuisine.
