Erkelenz is a town in the Rhineland. It is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Mönchengladbach on the northern edge of the Cologne Bay, halfway between the Lower Rhine and the Lower Meuse. It is a medium-sized district town and the largest in the district of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Schwanenberg is a district of the city of Erkelenz, located near the city of Mönchengladbach and is home to about 1640 inhabitants. There is a Lutheran elementary school and kindergarten in the village.
