About this house

The castle – plain on the outside, surprisingly impressive on the inside!

The building ensemble was created in the 12th century as a former water castle and is located in the former Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg. The water castle was first documented in 1886 as the largest manor estate of the then duchy.

There are still old, graphic documents about it today, which show the old, historic stock.

In 2007, the entire property was returned to private ownership. Since then, the entire estate has been secured, partially renovated, and lovingly maintained.

The basic structure is excellent and from the cellar to the roof there is an unparalleled state of preservation. Renovations in the historic building stock were carried out carefully and very thoughtfully; one example is the magnificent roof truss. Many original appliqués and components such as stucco, parquet floors, and doors have been preserved and only need to be restored in part. The oil heating system from the 1990s no longer complies with the applicable Building Energy Act.

See for yourself the current condition, which is reflected in the numerous pictures.

The following renovations and modernizations have been carried out so far:

+ Both roof trusses of the castle renovated, completely re-roofed including all plumbing work

+ Beam heads of the ceiling joists on the 2nd upper floor to the attic renovated

+ windows already partially replaced in accordance with historic preservation requirements

All previous work was carried out in coordination with the monument authority and complies with its specifications. An extremely exciting project that will ultimately become a unique piece of history.

After consultation with the monument authority, the installation of solar modules on the castle roofs is possible. However, these should match the red roof color. Depending on future use, the topic of hydrogen in connection with solar energy will certainly also be interesting. In Germany there are already two larger companies that offer hydrogen systems in connection with a fuel cell, storage, and heat recovery.
Important:

The special depreciation allowance for listed properties has not yet been claimed. For future renovators, owner-occupiers, but also investors, there is the possibility of lucrative depreciation here.
