Real estate transfer tax in Saxony: Why it rose to 5.5% in 2023
On January 1, 2023, the Free State of Saxony increased the real estate transfer tax from 3.5 to 5.5 percent – a two-percentage-point surcharge that makes every property purchase noticeably more expensive. For a purchase price of 300,000 euros, buyers have since paid 16,500 instead of 10,500 euros, meaning 6,000 euros more.
