Even before the municipal reorganization of 1975, when they were incorporated into Düsseldorf, the three traditional village communities of Angermund, Wittlaer and Kalkum from the old "Amt Angerland" were popular residential areas for Düsseldorfers. Their independence has been preserved. The history of the village of Wittlaer, which stretches along the banks of the Rhine, dates back to the 12th century. Lower Rhine village-style restaurants, some with beautiful beer gardens and views of the Rhine, are popular excursion destinations.
A challenge for the historical part is the new "Einbrungen". Düsseldorf's largest new development area for many years, with a mixture of detached houses and publicly subsidized housing in multi-storey buildings, is setting new accents.
One of the advantages of the district is its good transport links with a direct connection to the light rail.
