Around 1,300 residents currently live in tranquil Gieselwerder. In 2020, the small town was designated as the administrative seat of the municipality of Wesertal. Administratively, the municipality of Wesertal belongs to the North Hessian district of Kassel.

Gieselwerder is idyllically situated in the upper Weser Valley between Hannoversch Münden and the very popular tourist destination of Bad Karlshafen. Nestled between the Bramwald recreational area and the Reinhardswald, people live here very peacefully amid meadows and fields and directly on the Weser.
