Hörde is a district in the administrative district of the same name in Dortmund's south. In 1928, the former independent town in the County of Mark and county town of the Hörde rural district became part of Dortmund. From 1911 to 1928, Hörde was an administrative district in its own right. Today, Hörde is a model of structural change. Hörde is currently being transformed from a district in the shadow of the former Hermannshütte steel and iron works into a modern, leisure-focused district that is home to technology-orientated businesses. Beacons of this urban development are the Phönixsee lake and the establishment of one of Germany's most important centres for microsystems technology.
